Why does ripley try to override

It is possible the great quantity of matter and energy that an explosion would undoubtedly produce slammed into the shuttle. While attempting to remove the face hugger from Kane, the creature's acid blood burns a hole in the floor. This hole looks to have disappeared during the scene where Dallas, Ripley and Ash are searching for the dead face hugger, but can actually be seen to have been covered by a medical tray.

During her final transmission Ripley identifies herself as "3rd officer. However, at this point in the story, the Nostromo no longer exists, there is no one else to command, and Ripley's permanent employment status is still as a 3rd Officer.

It would be rather ridiculous to title one's self as "Acting Captain" or "Commanding Officer Pro-Tem" given all that has occurred. Mirrors were used to make the set hallways look much longer than they actually were. Despite the humid temperatures of the ship during the detonation sequence, and the fact that Ripley is seen coated in sweat, including her nails, when she disrobes in the escape shuttle, there is no perspiration anywhere on her under garments, not even the armpits.

One of the moons in the system containing LV the target moon is out of phase with the others. The 'blood' coming from the facehugger clearly seems to be coming from a vial on the end of the device used to cut into it. The nuclear bolt clamps on the self-destruct system release before Ripley has even keyed all of the code in.

The prop fire extinguisher that Parker uses to immobilize Ash, while seemingly quite heavy when first wielded thanks to a post-production metallic clang, proves to be very lightweight later in the battle with no added sound effects: its natural impacts sound neither metallic nor heavy. The goof items below may give away important plot points. In the next shot we see his shirt intact and we see Ash tearing it.

Then when the angle changes again, the blood comes back. It was not wiped away, because his head is perfectly clean, rather than smeared. In the next scene, Lambert is just picking Ripley up. She moves Ripley only a short distance toward the hatch before dropping her to assist Parker.

In the next scene, Ash is still atop Parker. Lambert then hits Ash with the electric prod. In the next shot he has more slime on his hand than there was on the floor. They disappear into the neck when the body is raised high enough.

Mother's two 30 second countdowns take 36 and 37 seconds respectively. The motion sensor used to track the alien senses micro-changes in air density. They deduce the alien is moving, presumably because of these changes.

However, as we can see just before Dallas is ambushed in the air ducts, the tracker does not reveal which level the alien is on as it moves toward him. We learn that Ash's order was to obtain the specimen at the cost of the crew's lives. Therefore, he has intentionally sabotaged the tracker to give the crew misleading information. We see the clock counting down and it cuts away when the timer reaches , and then Mother says "ship will self-destruct in T-minus 5 minutes.

Ridley Scott stated that water was used to create the illusion of plasma. The water flowing over the camera lens is obviously an intended dramatic effect to show the intense energy generated by the intended plasma.

Lambert wears cowboy boots; the feet shown wore joggers. The Nostromo crew were probably briefed about another function though, like decontamination if risk of extraterrestrial bacteria or something. I could be totally wrong tho. To keep with the story. The Nostromo was an aging tub look at all the issues they had keeping the ship flying when they made the landing. Plus all the systems that half-assed worked like the lighting system down in the corridors when they were hunting for Jonesy.

To get he to the self destruct. The Nostromo has 4 cooling systems that she had to cut off for the self destruct to be engaged. When she went to turn them back on she was only able to get one fully engaged before the 5 minute timer lapsed. The real reason had self destruct was because of Dan O'Bannon. He once expressed frustration with Michael Crichton's The Andromeda Strain for taking the easy way out and blowing everything thing up I've actually never read it myself.

But when it came to writing Alien he finally understood why he did that,it was a simple and effective way to end things. As per the film, once you initiate the scuttle procedure you have 10 minutes to abandon ship. If you change your mind you must do it in less than five minutes.

Ripley didn't do it in less than five minutes. The option to over ride expired and the engines have effectively started to meltdown. There's no big conspiracy or fault in the ship - it did precisely what it was designed to do. I wasn't thinking conspirscy theory in any way, I was just sure ripley managed to turn the coolant system back on as I believe the time showed she still had a little over 5 mins left but I haven't seen it in a while so could be wrong. As she's trying to push the nuclear heads down, she glances at the timer which says As she goes to flip the levers up it shows the timer again ticking down from to Most of the stuff cut out from the theatrical release is pretty subtle stuff but there is a scene at the end that is pretty cool.

JombieZombie Member since Nov posts. That's a steal. Damn, the passes alone pay for themselves. Wooly Washington Fan Member since Feb posts. Def going to pick those up today, so how do those free passes work? It was a sticker added to the shrink wrapped case. On the back of the sticker is a code and a website.

You just go to the site and enter your code and print out your pass. Basically she was dead anyway. Nowhere to go and the alien was on to her. So it would just seem to be the best option to destruct the ship and the alien. She was a fighter, giving in and commiting suicide was not in her nature. Have a look at her in Aliens, insisting on being taught how to use the grenade launcher, returning the loader to fight the queen etc.

The alien moved around the ship and although it was blocking her way out at the moment it would probably move, it was just a matter of her not getting caught. If nothing else she might be able to hold it off with the flame thrower until she got out, there were several options other than just giving up. I am guessing that at that point she was going to turn off the self destruct, get in the pod and blast off and then just broadcast a warning about the ship's contents. If you remember watching the movie.

The scene where she sees the alien before she goes to disable the self destruct. Well the main reason she went to go disable it was that the alien was blocking her only way of escape, the shuttle Narcassis.
